Canon CP780 is almost perfect 4x6 printer!
Please also read the reviews for the Canon CP760 as they almost all apply to this printer also. The only problem I have with this printer is the image optimize setting is reset to on when you turn the printer back on. Bites me every time!

This Printer is Great For Portability
Because I didn't want to dish out the overpriced dollars for the Canon iP100, I looked for something on a smaller priced scale. I did minimal research because I knew I wanted a Canon.

The latest Canon CP780 does the job it's advertised. My printed photos are rich and colorful. One minute print times are okay, and the paper/ink sets (sold separately) fully coincide with the printer. I haven't had any snags or stuck papers. The printer doesn't take up any space at all in my living space.

A couple of complaints. I agree with other reviewers about some of my photos having cut off heads during printing. It's only a few photos I've had a problem with, but it's not great.

The other issue is the 4x6 photo size. I would love to have the option to print on 3x2 to make for an even more intimate photo collection. Currently, when my photos come up, I have to tweak the settings to print them on half a sheet. Now I have about 50 half sheets of unused photos! And no, you cannot use the other half of the photo for a different picture. It would be nice to have various sample sizes of paper (and cassettes) included in the box.

One more thing is it would be nice to have a battery and bluetooth included. With current technology the way it is, the assumed portability of this printer, I should be able to open the box and start printing without going through the hassle of finding a plug, hooking it up, etc. That's why it's considered portable. I would pay an extra for this printer if those items were included. My opinion.

A note on customer service: My printer for some reason didn't come with the sample 5-sheet print pack, so instead of me sending the printer back, Amazon refunded me a small percentage. I love their customer service!

Cute
I got this item for my daughter she likes to take pictures and it's easier for her to print them avoiding printing cost. I was not disappointed with this purchase. Only one suggestion I wished you could of gotten a size bigger than the regular. But overall I'll recommend this item to anyone who likes to take pictures. The quality is great and it's efficient.

Pretty amazing for 0!
I got tired of sending prints to the drugstore and getting mediocre quality, so I decided to see if I could manage it better with a printer at home. Even after I bought it, I was skeptical of what kind of results I'd get, but I was totally wowed. The prints are vivd, crisp, and gorgeous. I absolutely love it. The only qualm I have is the cropping issue another reviewer lamented about. If printing directly from the printer, you don't have many editing options. (It's designed for the less technically inclined.) Printing from a computer lets you be more specific as far as indicating the print area on your photo, but the 4x6 sizing is not conducive to digital images. You're going to lose part of your picture no matter what. Even so, it's incredible for the price, so I'm happy to sing it's praises.

Selphy printer is convenient and easy to use.
Canon Selphy CP780 Silver Compact Photo Printer (3501B001) Easy to use and takes up minimum space. Prints seem to be decent quality.

The item arrived promptly, packed in original carton, worked perfectly as soon as connected up. Great job

ALMOST a great printer
This printer could be great with a little bit more attention from Canon.

I won't repeat the details from the other reviews, but here's a summary of what I like about the printer and the problems I've had.

1) The paper capacity is good. It lets you put a full ream of paper in the tray at once, and you can still use the side "multi-purpose tray" for printing on special paper such as labels.

2) The scanner/copier glass is bigger than most other printers.

3) the auto-feed is great for batch scanning.

4) It's very fast and copies / printing is sharp and dark if you want it to be.

OK, the not-so-great:

1) I have a Linux server with Windows clients and a MacBook Pro. I can't attach the printer to the server - I have to plug it into one of the Windows systems - because it doesn't have drivers for Linux. Also, even though they claim Mac support, I can't print over the network from the MacBook Pro - and I don't want to dedicate my MacBook to being a print server. So I have to use the Canon MP830 inkjet color printer if I want to print from the Mac. What a royal pain, all because Canon doesn't seem to care enough to spend the price of a few dozen printers or so on a competent programmer! Unbelievable.

2) If the driver settings and the printer settings for paper don't match, it gives you an error message. Annoying.

3) There's no Cancel printing button. Another annoyance.

4) Our old Lexmark Optra cartridges lasted 14,000 pages for 0. This printer lasts 5,000 pages for 9. At least I can buy refilled cartridges for , but I still have to change the tonger more often than I'd like.

Fabulous machine
I purchased the Canon MF6550 to replace a Canon PC980 copier, and to replace an HP 6210 All-In-One which my office used as a FAX. I was slightly worried because the reviews here were only lukewarm, but on other sites they were better. Well, let me just say whoever is complaining about this machine is way off base. First, it came with a Windows VISTA disc so it worked seemlessly with my VISTA computer. Second, it is nearly twice as fast as the PC980 (23 pages vs. 12). Third, the FAX works great, very quiet, very efficient. Fourth, the manual explains everything and is very easy to understand. Fifth, on a cost per page basis, it is slightly less expensive than the PC980, and significantly less expensive than the HP 6210. Sixth, the printer works great, is also very fast, and has great print quality. And seventh, it comes with a THREE YEAR warranty. You can't beat all that. Everyone in my office loves it and we don't regret purchasing it at all. For our money, it is a fabulous machine.

Quality in Cannon
Cannon is an excellent brand, although this printer is slightly harder to navigate through projects, than my Lexmark. Overall I would have to say the quality of the prints are first class. I think the color values are better than other printers I have had (Lexmark, HP)or used. It is more expensive to buy ink, but with high quality performance and I don't mind paying extra for ink. I also like the "quiet" feature, why would anyone want to hear the printing?, I find it annoying, it's great!

This is an awesome photo printer!
I bought this printer as a general-purpose family printer/scanner. This is my first all-in-one device. I have always been leery of multi-function devices thinking that they would be a "jack of all trades" but the "master of none." I may have also been biased because multifunction printer support when Mac OS X was released was pretty spotty. I tend to over research whatever I buy but the price, reviews, and specs for the MX850 were generally pretty good. I was not buying this as photo printer--that was going to be a future purchase. I bought the MX850 and got it set up on our network--my only complaint might be that setting up the printer on an ethernet is a little user unfriendly. I thought I would just try on a 4x6 print and was amazed at how good it was. So good, we got rid of our (very good) Epson PictureMate printer because of the higher versatility of the Canon. I then tried to push the envelope and bought some "pro" 8.5x11 photo paper. I was blown away by the results. For the first time since going digital, my pictures weren't trapped in the computer! I have made close to 100 large prints and was surprised how parsimonious with ink this printer is. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am an advanced amateur photographer. I color calibrate my Mac monitors. All my prints were created from Photoshop CS3 so all my images had been manipulated with respect to image size, contrast, and sharpness. I can not judge this printer on producing an image directly from a memory card or from less-capable image manipulation programs like iPhoto (which I do use for all my photo organization needs). However, every printer I have ever owned tends to darken photographs and the MX850 is no exception. When doing "fine art" printing from this device you may not get it right on the first print.

This printer does great on plain paper as well. In general the copying and scanning functions very well. The MP Navigator software works reasonably well but the UI is a little idiosyncratic--it doesn't have the polish of a true Mac OS X application. I have sent only one fax but that went without problem.

OMG This Printer Is Incredible
I Just got this printer from Adorama today (via UPS) and this thing is incredible. Im a professional photographer and this printer prints lab qaulity prints super fast. I made sure I used Photoshop to print some test pictures )4x6 on Canon Photo Plus Semi Gloss and it matched exactly what was on my screen. As a matter of fact the prints look better than whats on my screen...I had to do a double take. I no longer will be using the lab to order prints for my clients (only wedding books), Im printing them all myself. The speed is also amazing. The only thing I dont like thus far is the noise of the print head when the printer starts up and before prints start printing. When the picture prints its pretty quiet though. I will update my review after about a week after i dump a few hundred more prints for my clients.

***** Update #1 ***** : Ok Now I've had this printer a few weeks and I've printed a few hundred pictures in a variety of sizes (4x6, 5x7 , 8.5x11 and 13x19) and this is a must have printer for those wanting to print their own professional lab (and better than lab quality) photos. This bad boy is very fast and the print quality is just absolutely superb (I use Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy , Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl, Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss Paper and Ilfor Printasia 13x19 paper and Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II 13x19). I've shown my photo graphs to a variety of clients potential clients, freinds and family and they are blown away by the quality of the prints. When I tell them I printed them myself they are like "What?, No way" and then they asume I must have spend a whole lot of money on the printer...which is wrong (9 after rebate from amazon/adorama).

Pros :

Fast - This printer spits out a vibrant and full of color 13x19 glossy print in under 3 minutes 30 seconds.

Affordable - 9 after 0 rebate

Quiet - I can print at all hours of the night and not worry about waking anyone up. When Im in the next room with the door open the printer prints so quiet I cant even hear it and have to come check on the print job to make sure it didnt crash since I cant hear any noise in the next room..lol

Quality - Prints professional quality prints on a variety of papers in many different sizes.

Paper - You arent limited to Canon papers as you can use a bunch of other manufacturers papers.

Ink Usuage - Good on ink, Not really an ink guzzler. I printed dozens and dozens of 4x6's and even a bunch of 8x11's and 13x19s and the ink kept going and going, until I finaly started running low (after many prints had been printed). Also I now use The Continuous Ink System , so ink is now dirt cheap. Costs something link 50 cents - B001R4BTIA.00 per cartridge (estimated - all I know is I pay for and 8 pack of about 880 ml's of ink which is over 80 cartridges (no joke, visit fleabay and youll see tons of them)...Save money and Dont buy Canon Ink Carts and you will save at least 50% right off the bat).

Cons :

B&W printing - Prints mediocre black and white prints. This is no secret and I knew this before I bought it. I dont care about black and white prints just color so its all good for me.

Size - This is a big mamma-jamma. You will have to dedicate a space to this thing because of its width.

CD Printing - The US version of this printer does not print to CD's at all and there are no hacks that enable the CD printing feature (Like with the Pixma Pro 9000). If you need CD printing, just print to photo quality CD labels.

Overal: This is a fantastic buy. If you need professional quality color prints done in house you will surely love this printer. Canon outdid itself with this model... The price is steadily falling too. Especially after the 0 rebate.

Great Printer
I've had this printer over a year. I love it! It can go for months without being used and not clog up. The print quality is outstanding, just use a quality paper.

16 bit prining
This printer does a beautiful job with my 16 bit Photoshop images. With the right paper, the output looks like museum quality. The drivers work well in Mac OS10.5.7. So far no hiccups. Hope I like it this much in a year. My last "major printer" was an Epson Photo 2200. It was good at first, an then started clogging a lot. Someone told me that if you don't use an Epson printer on a regular basis, it will start streaking and can't be fixed. I hope that is not the case with the Canon. So far I love it.

Fast, sharp looking prints on a variety of papers
Have had this printer for about a week now. Upgraded from a Epson R2400. Reason for upgrading, couldn't keep the epson's printhead from clogging. Wasted more ink trying to keep the printheads clean then I actually used printing pictures. As far as print quality goes between the two is basically a toss up. Prints from the canon are more glossy then the epson probably due to the fact the canon uses dye inks while the epson uses pigment. The only thing I don't like about the canon is right out of the box the prints seem to have to much red in them. Playing around in Adobe CS4 I was able to get the prints to my liking. With the easyprint software included with the printer, no matter what setting it seemed all the pictures have a red tint to them. This is one area the epson had an advantage, the easyprint software that came with the epson produced prints spot on. This is the reason I gave the printer a four star instead of five. The people that use adobe photoshop to print all their pictures won't have a problem, but people like me that like using the easyphoto program to print out a bunch of picutres might be somewhat disappointed. A couple of more pluses of the printer are: Turns out prints faster then the epson R2400. Prints look sharp on a wide variety of paper, not just the canon paper. This was one drawback of the epson R2400, seemed only to print good on epson paper. Not the case with the canon. Also, seems better on ink compared to the epson so far. I have printed a lot of photos of all sizes and all the ink levels are still pretty close to full. Overall I would definetly recommend this printer.

5-stars well deserved!
The Canon i850 photo printer deserves to be in the spotlight. It is an amazing consumer product. I bought this printer 5 years ago, and not only has it been reliable, it still prints photos just as well as all the new printers out there.

This is great for anyone, it not only prints photos, but it does a great job with regular documents; it prints them in seconds! I haven't seen such speed in some of the top of the line consumer printers!

Canon printers are amazing, especially this part of the "i" series!

One of the best inkjet printers out there!
The Canon i850 hits the price-point sweet spot & delivers value consistently. I bought mine new in 2002 & it still works perfectly after 5 years of use.

It's good to see that a used one is now worth more than what I paid for it back then, but given the quality and reliability of this printer, I don't see when I'd ever sell it.

Ultimately, if you're in the market for an inkjet, get this one if you can.

Excellent Printing
This was my first photo printer and I still tend to compare other models to this one. The print quality and speed on Canon Photo Paper is excellent. Having individual tanks has been a blessing. I've actually run into situations where the yellow runs out while all other colors are still usable. Even regular printing jobs are done admirably well.
